1737 Massachusetts Arrest Warrant EBENEZER WELLINGTON of Stoughton, TIM. FALES

Offered here is a 1p. partly-printed DS, 7 1/2″ x 6 1/4″, dated February 20, 1737, a Bristol County Province of Massachusetts arrest warrant ordering the sheriff “… to Attach the Goods or Estate of Ebenezer Wellington of Stoughton Suffolk County
… to the Value of twenty Eight pounds… to Answer unto Eleazer Gilbert of Easton in our County of Bristol… in a plea of Debt…,” signed Timothy Fales (Clerk), witnessed by Seth Williams, and on verso signed Ralph Pope (Deputy Sheriff) and Jon.a Lawrence (Attorney for Plaintiff).  Folds, minor edge wear, otherwise in excellent condition for age.
CAPTAIN TIMOTHY FALES ( 1690-1777 ) was the son of James and Deborah (Fisher) Fales. Fales graduated from Harvard College in 1711 and was soon a sea captain (sometime before 1720).  In 1724, having left the sea trade, he was given a commission as Justice of the Peace and later appointed the first clerk of the Inferior Court of Common Pleas and the Court of Sessions of Bristol County. Fales married (first) Alethea Paine in 1717, and (second) Elizabeth (Gardner) Thomas, widow of Nathaniel Thomas, in 1748.  He retired from the Court in 1774, having served some fifty years of public service.  In need of further research.
